IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer will kick off all UC Irvine athletics for the 2021-22 school yearin mid-August with their first competitive matches since 2019 in front of 100% capacity crowds.
Women's soccer is stacked up with a 19-match slate starting with an exhibition match at Saint Mary's, August 12, to kick off all athletics for UC Irvine in the 2021-22 school year.
The extremely competitive non-conference slate for head coach Scott Juniper's squad starts with a huge season-opener, Thursday, August 19, at UCLA coming off a one-loss season in 2020 and College Cup appearance in 2019. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with a 4:00 p.m. start as the 'Eaters and 11-time Pac-12 Champions match up for the 13th time all-time and first since 2004.
UCI's non-conference schedule ends with two more Pac-12 meetings leading off with a home game September 9 against Oregon State and capping it off with a trip to Cal, September 16. The three Pac-12 opponents mark the fourth straight season in which the 'Eaters will take on at least three Pac-12 foes, and the 12th consecutive season for the program to schedule at least three Power-5 opponents which included eight in their most recent season in 2019.
The season continues on with seven more non-conference matchups starting with the home opener, August 22, against Southern Utah in Anteater Stadium which is open for fans and 100% capacity for the 2021 season. The Anteaters travel to a pair of competitive West Coast Conference opponents in midweek trips to San Diego, August 26, and Loyola Marymount, September 2.
Big West Conference play has expanded in 2021 with the additions of UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield making the conference 11 schools strong. Coach Juniper's squad is coming off a 2021 Spring season where they went 3-0-2 exclusively against Big West opponents outscoring them, 8-3. The 2021 schedule features 12 matchups with Big West foes with a home-and-home series against CSUN and Cal State Fullerton taking each on in a non-conference matchup early and against later in the schedule for Big West play.
UC San Diego will come to Anteater Stadium and start conference play for the 'Eaters on September 26 in the first Big West meeting between the schools and first meeting between the programs since 1992.The 'Eaters travel to reigning Big West champion Cal State Fullerton on September 30 in a Big West matchup.
October begins with the final eight Big West contests beginning October 3 with a visit from UC Riverside. Remaining Big West games in Anteater Stadium will feature UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and the regular season finale against Cal Poly on Halloween. UCI road trips send the 'Eaters to Long Beach State, Hawai'i, a second matchup against CSUN, and the first Big West contest with CSU Bakersfield at their place for the second-ever meeting and first since 2007.
Big West Tournament time commences in November at at site to be determined. The NCAA Tournament follows in mid-November with the College Cup taking place in San Jose, Calif. in 2021.
