Last week I did something that I thought I was never capable of: I climbed the Mont Ventoux, a famous mountain cycle climb in France. The preparation for this ride was not perfect. Due to busy times, I could not always live up to my training schedule. I even considered not to climb the mountain. So, what started last week as a ‘let’s see how far I come’ effort ended at the top. I cried because I conquered that little voice inside me that said: you are not good enough for this. What I have learned from this is that you are always more capable than you give yourself credits for. What helped was that I had support riding next to me. So that was my secure base. So, my second lesson was that to succeed I need a secure base. That’s also what leadership is about, right? Providing a secure base so that employees push their boundaries and perform at their best. I take these lessons home with me, as a leader and as an employee.

Acquiring knowledge primarily relies on the dedicated pursuit of education. There are no shortcuts to expand one's understanding; the path to learning is paved through consistent and thorough study. A relentless commitment to studying remains the sole means to foster knowledge and personal growth. Consequently, leadership is intricately tied to the possession of knowledge. In its absence, leadership transforms into mere management, emphasizing the indispensable role of knowledge in effective leadership.

Auditing MOOCs are a perfect way of learning at your own pace. I successfully completed this course at HarvardX, led by Ronald Heifetz, M.D. from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. It gave me a really good insight into the foundations of leadership.

Excited to share my learnings from the Harvard University Leadership Principles Course! 🎓The experience has been nothing short of eye-opening. Throughout the duration of the course, I immersed myself in a wealth of insights and open topics that have already started to reshape the way I approach leadership and decision-making. Here are some of the key takeaways that I'm ready to apply both personally and professionally:💡 Leading with Empathy: Understanding and valuing the perspectives and emotions of team members fosters a positive and collaborative work environment, leading to increased engagement and productivity. 💡 Cultivating Resilience: A leader's ability to navigate challenges and setbacks is crucial. I gained insights into building personal resilience, and learning how setbacks can be turned into stepping stones for growth. For the US Office fans, it gave me a new appreciation of Michael Scott's metaphor that the leader is the captain, the staff are the crew and the vessel needs to navigate around the hazards of the business environment. 💡 Adaptive Communication: Effective communication goes beyond words – it involves tailoring your message to different audiences and situations. Whether it's through active listening, clear articulation, or open dialogue.💡 Decision-Making Under Uncertainty: In today's challenging economy and working for a growing company like MOO, change is inevitable and making decisions with imperfect information can be unavoidable. I honed my skills in assessing risks, considering alternatives, and confidently making choices in the face of uncertainty. This course has been a true investment in my growth journey, equipping me with timeless principles that transcend my current role. I'm grateful for organisations like edX who are on a continuous mission to make education affordable and flexible for people like myself 🙏 You can enroll on the 2 month course here: https://lnkd.in/eWnH6cZf#learning #education #skills #edx #harvardalumni
